Di developed a fascination with the graphic novel format, so she decided to pursue her Masters. It was at this point that everything came together, and the family memorabilia morphed into this engrossing and exquisite illustrated story.
The Writing Desk is a beautifully crafted graphic novel and engaging biography, about two sisters, Elsie and Margaret, who were born and raised on a farm near Pleasant Point, South Canterbury in the mid-1870s.
The Writing Desk highlights the daily trials and societal attitudes that women faced in the colonial era and offers a fascinating comparison to contemporary gender imbalances that young women still deal with today.
