Woodford House is one of the largest boarding schools in New Zealand. Being a boarder at our school is an enriching experience that is so much more than simply living at school. It is about being part of an extended family and feeling comfortable, nurtured and safe in a home away from home.
Boarding gives girls confidence and independence. It helps with self-sufficiency and self-motivation. Our boarders often show maturity and empathy beyond their years. By boarding at Woodford House, girls form life-long friendships that give them support and sisterhood throughout school and beyond.
Learning and living are woven together to provide a seamless educational experience encompassing modern user-friendly buildings, nutritious and tasty meals, and family-value-based care.
Our girls’ school days are enriched by a range of co-curricular, after-school and weekend experiences.
During weekends, girls can take part in a number of sport and recreation activities. The girls also enjoy community events such as shows, movies, activities and shopping in town.
Each of our boarding houses has a dedicated supervisor who provides around-the-clock care. Our boarding staff have many years of experience working with adolescent girls. They are kind, nurturing and respectful of the girls in their care.
In Year 13, our girls can move into our apartments. These are located at school while allowing senior girls to experience independent living including self-catering at the weekends, laundry facilities, and greater responsibility and privileges.
To support in-class learning we offer an innovative and extensive prep programme. This is specifically designed to support different learning styles and 21st Century learners including opportunities for tutoring by qualified teachers, integrated technology and collaborative learning.
Our Light Programme is pastoral support for new and junior students led by boarding management and boarding leaders. It includes education and activities to make our boarders feel at home and part of the family.
We partner with respected Hawke’s Bay catering company Orton’s to provide nutritious and delicious meals for our students. You can find out more about catering provided at Woodford House below.
