Student Support Assistant

Permanent, Part time (32.5 hours per week), Term time only 

Woodford House is seeking a warm, highly organised Student Support Assistant to provide front‑line administrative and operational support to our Boarding community and wider team.

This role is supporting boarding operations and compliance, and positive relationships with students, parents and staff.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of People and Administration, the Student Support Assistant provides high‑quality administrative support to ensure a safe, well‑organised and welcoming environment for boarding students and their families.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Being a first point of contact for boarding enquiries during the school day
  • Supporting the Director of Boarding with pastoral and administrative processes
  • Managing boarding leave and travel logistics
  • Maintaining accurate records, emergency lists and evacuation procedures
  • Administering Orah, including leave passes and parent liaison
  • Supporting boarding events and whānau functions
  • Providing flexible administration office cover as required

Payroll and Boarding Assistant

Permanent, Part-time 32 hours per week, 52 weeks

Woodford House, a leading Anglican Special Character, state-integrated, boarding and day school for Year 7 – 13 girls, in Hawke’s Bay is seeking to appoint a permanent, part-time, to join our passionate and enthusiastic administration team. We nurture each girl who walks through our doors so that her light shines brighter. 

About the Role 

Woodford House is seeking a highly organised and detail-focused Payroll and Boarding Assistant to join our Administration team. This is a varied and people-facing role that combines end-to-end payroll responsibilities with boarding administration support, working closely with staff, students, parents, and external agencies. This role reports to the Director of People and Administration and is an important role in the high performing, friendly and helpful administration team. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Accurately process weekly payroll and maintain compliant records, databases, and leave per legislation. 
  • Coordinate with Education Payroll on staff changes, relief, timesheets, and act as liaison for payroll queries. 
  • Ensure payroll controls, reporting, audit requirements, and PAYE returns are met and support annual audits within deadlines. 
  • Handle boarding enquiries during school hours and administer related forms, consents, and Transfer of Care. 
  • Support EOTC, boarding activities, pastoral care administration, and maintain emergency, evacuation, and logistics procedures for boarders. 
  • Manage boarding systems, records, reports, supplies, linen, maintenance assistance, and year-end processes. 
  • Provide backup and maintain office operations in the Administration team during absences, showing flexibility to support school operations and uphold policies and special character. 

 

About You 

The successful candidate will be an experienced administrator, who enjoys wearing multiple hats and brings strong judgment, initiative, and organisational savvy to every task.  

  • Minimum three years’ experience in payroll management. 
  • Strong administrative background in complex or fast-paced environments. 
  • High accuracy and attention to detail, especially with numerical work. 
  • Proficient in Excel and payroll systems. 
  • Experience supporting audits and meeting deadlines under pressure. 
  • Confident interpersonal skills for engaging with teenagers, parents, and staff. 
  • Professional, discreet, and excellent at customer service. 
  • Proactive, logical, and solutions-focused attitude. 
  • Previous experience in a school or education setting preferred, but not essential.

Assistant Director of Boarding

Permanent, Full Time, Term time only

Woodford House, a leading special character, state-integrated, boarding and day school for Year 7 – 13 girls, in Hawke’s Bay is seeking to appoint a permanent, Assistant Director of Boarding to join our passionate and enthusiastic team. We nurture each girl who walks through our doors so that her light shines brighter.  

 About the Role 

This newly created role of Assistant Director of Boarding will provide leadership and ensure a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for our boarding students. Working closely as part of the Boarding leadership team, you will oversee daily operations, lead a team of Boarding Supervisors, and champion student wellbeing and compliance with health and safety standards. 

The role of Assistant Director of Boarding is required in term time only, (on average 60 hrs per week, including sleeping).

The hours are:

Wednesday 2.30pm – Thursday 8.30am

Thursday 2.45pm – Friday 8.30am

Friday 2.30pm – Saturday 8.30am

Saturday 5pm – Sunday 8.30am  (fortnightly)

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage operations across Boarding Houses while on shift. 

  • Lead and develop the Boarding Supervisor team. 
  • Ensure high standards of pastoral care and student wellbeing. 
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety and school policies. 
  • Build strong relationships with parents and the wider school community. 

 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Experience in boarding, education, or a care environment. 
  • Strong leadership and team management skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. 
  • Commitment to student welfare and a positive boarding experience. 
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, KAMAR, Orah, Schoology).
